The Vermont Long Trail - A path for those who wish to commune with nature
I hiked the Long Trail (LT) in two parts: the first part was in 2011 while hiking the AT, when I went from the Massachusetts border (where the AT and LT become the same trail for about 100 miles), to where the Long Trail splits to go north near Killington, VT. With that 100+ miles already under my belt, I hiked the northern portion of the LT from just past the Inn At the Long Trail junction, to trail's end at the Canadian border during the middle of September 2012. The final 166 mile stretch from Killington northward, was certainly the most challenging, the most remote, and some of the most scenic hiking in Vermont.
The Southern Long Trail is also the Appalachian Trail. The Long Trail begins at the MA/VT border, and extends north-east to Mt. Killington. At Killington, the trail splits into the Long Trail, which continues northward to Canada, and also continues East as the Appalachian Trail. My hike of the 100 miles on the Southern Long Trail can be found within my Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike.
The story below is of my 166 mile long trip to finish the trail from Killington to the Canadian Border. Enjoy!
