Therm-a-rest z-lite closed cell foam mat (Pacific crest Trail Thru-hike)
It is a sleeping mat. Nothing fancy, but certainly not something to overlook. A comfortable nights sleep while outdoors is important. I used an 8 section mat that measured 20" x 42" and was 3/4" at the thickest part. LIKES: It weighed 8 oz. I slept on it for 2,400 miles, and still have it in my closet. With a retail cost of $45 for a full size (14 section) mat that was 72" long, it won't set you back very much.
Therm-a-Rest's thicker and inflatable offerings are more comfortable. This mat however, can't be popped or spring a weird leak. Since I could get a good nights sleep on it and not worry about popping it in the desert, I hung onto it until the winter hiking conditions set in in Washington.
COMMENTS: This mat is not forgiving. If you don't clean a flat, clear spot for sleeping, you will feel every acorn and rock. It is warm, but not as warm or as cushioned as the Xlite airmat. It will last a long time, and it is an accordion mat - so it folds into a very compact mat that is easy to carry. A great value, and if you are careful in your campsite, a comfortable mat.
