FROGG TOGGS MICROPORE JACKET (AT THRU-HIKE & WINTER CAMPING)
FYI: I DO NO USE THIS JACKET FOR WINTER CAMPING ANYMORE.
Most people, including myself, will find that since this is such a lightweight jacket that it will easily rip it during a winter trip.
LIKES: Super cheap, easily repaired with duct tape, lightweight and minimalist style. I paid $15 for a brand new set of jacket and pants. Pants rip almost just by looking at them, but the jacket lasted me 1,680 miles on the AT with only 6 duct tape patches. This is such a fragile jacket, that it will rip. But it is such a cheap and light jacket that breathes better in summer than most any other rain jackets, that it is worth using, fixing with duct tape, and then throwing away after your 3-season trip.
DISLIKES: For a set of rain-gear that cost $15-25 dollars, what is there to dislike. It is very fragile, so only those in warmer rain, or for occasional or summit use should consider this jacket. This jacket is good in hot weather, but if you get a lot of cold rain like the Pacific Northwest, then I'd stop to consider if this may be a dangerous and too minimalist of a purchase.
SUMMARY: I loved having a rain jacket that only came out every so often during an extended summer rain. It breathed well, while still acting kind of like a wind-shirt when I was up on the summits. I threw out the pants and gave the jacket (duct tape and all) to another hiker who had 500 more miles to hike down south. A+ since you can't beat the value or the summer breathability.
